Purported Expulsion : PDP Chairman Faults The Decision Of NEC
Peoples Democratic Party Chairman in sagamu local government; Otunba Kola Akinyemi has condemned the purported expulsion of a Senator representing Ogun East senatorial district; Prince Buruji Kashamu and three others by the National Executive Committee. He described the ruling as perverse and travesty of the Party's constitution.
While addressing members of the Party today, Otunba Akinyemi said the grounds on which NEC made the barbaric decision was untenable and unsupportable.
"Some days ago, it got to my notice that the National Executive Committee of our Party held a meeting and there, the members resolved to expel PDP's grand mobilizer and financier in the South West; Senator Buruji Kashamu. This decision is not just undemocratic, it is also unconstitutional. One is at liberty to say the national leadership of our Party now act against the written constitution which is assumed to guide our activities. Going by the provisions of the Party's constitution, Article 57 (6), it was clearly stated that any decision taken against a member who has not been informed of the charges against him or has not been given any opportunity to defend himself shall be null and void".
Otunba Akinyemi stated further that since the decision was illegal, it should therefore not be taken serious because it doesn't exist. He urged the teeming members of PDP in the local government to be rest assured that the membership of Senator Buruji Kashamu with PDP remains intact. The meeting was attended by a very large number of Peoples Democratic Party in Sagamu Local Government and what this signals is that they are firmly with the Senator in PDP. It was further gathered that the Senator is still being recognised as one of PDP Senators at the National Assembly.
