PDP Chairman Spits Fire, Calls APC An Oppressive Party

Peoples Democratic Party Chairman in Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State; Otunba Kola Akinyemi (Tonight) has described the ruling party in the State as one which has no respect for human rights and the rule of law.

This, he stated today at the weekly general meeting of the Party in Sagamu. Otunba Akinyemi said his attention was recently drawn to a report making rounds that some members of the ruling Party in the Local Government had submitted some names to the State Governor. According to them, the list consist of names of some PDP members who were accused of threatening and condemning the present day government in the State. I wish to state clearly that it was a wrong accusation as no individual has the power or authority to threaten a sitting government.

"It is nauseating, that those who identified themselves as 'progressive Nigerians' are stylishly drawing us back to the military days where the rights of Nigerians are being gallantly deprived. It got to my notice few days ago that members of the ruling Party (APC) boasted of submitting a list to the State Governor; which they claim includes names of those threatening and  condemning the Party. I wish to inform you all that such step is unreasonable and archaic in this democratic era. Although, I believe this strategy is to instill fear in the minds of PDP Members and discourage them from exposing the weaknesses of the ruling Party further. I assure you all that with God and our Distinguished leaders; Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Senator Prince Buruji Kashamu, no one can arrest you unlawfully or deprive you of your speech freedom. Do not be moved by their noise and threats. It is pure nonsense", Otunba Kola said.

The Party Chairman stated further that based on this, he has alerted the appropriate quarters in order to avoid a repetition of what happened at Isaara where innocent people were being arrested and detained unlawfully. According to him, "Like we all know that our leaders; Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Senator Prince Buruji Kashamu have maximum respect for the law, so are we, their followers. We are not rogues or criminals. We can not abandon our daily activities through which we earn our living to waste time on a Party which has already been rejected by the majority. We are not political jobbers. We all have other things we engage in apart from politics. Myself for example, I am into estate management. I have no illegal dealings and therefore, none of their threats can scare me.  This technique is employed by the APC to shift the attention of our people from the forthcoming election so as to pave way for their rigging strategies. It will never happen", Kola Akinyemi assured.

The Chairman then urged Party faithfuls who have obtained their PVCs to take proper care of it as it would be needed to vote in candidates of their choice next year. Finally, he implored those who have not obtained theirs to kindly do so as INEC announced few days ago that the CVR exercise would come to an end on the 17th of August, 2018.
