WEEKEND CHIPS : ONE TIME BY COMRADE BIMFO (Series 1)

If there's one thing that has always been a problem in the heart of young creative minds, it is the lack of finance, Money to be specific.

 Even in entrepreneurial studies, the lack of capital is always mentioned as one of the major problems while setting up a business. We all believe our talent, skill should be generating revenue for us. The G guys say to us "If it's not making money, then it's not making sense". Our friends tell us "Who your career help sef".

Then our minds begin to be renewed, we then go on to Google, "How to make money as a..." We begin to look for ways to "blow", ways to earn money quickly. We just want to shame critics, shame friends who call us wack for what we do. We all want a one time, A one time that would put those haters to shame.


As a writer, your one time could be when your article makes the headline of Punch Newspapers or that article that would generate a lot of uproar among social circles, it might even get a reply from the Presidency. Or rather when your piece gets on New York Times, the number one news outlet in America, You could go gaga crazy! Yay,  I just made it. Well, Wole Soyinka felt the same way when He won the Nobel Laureate in 1986. Must have gone above the board.

As an artiste, your BREAKOUT could be when you finally drop an hit track that one hit that could propel you to global prominence. Wizkid only needed a Drake to his "Ojuelegba" which was what kick started his international career. Or your "one time" could be when Davido follows you on Instagram! Banana fall on you.

As an Entrepreneur, your one time could be when a unique idea pops out of that cerebrum during a brainstorming session or very early in the morning. An idea that could change the world, solve a global problem or pull a large mass of revenue to your company.

The truth is there's no one time, Your One time is an accumulation of several times. Several times when you put out an article and it gets no comments, when you put out a song and it gets 5 downloads(even those 5 were from friends and family), Times when you burnt the midnight oil in the studio, Times when someone stole that particular business idea or concept.

Times when your business partners "sly" you off a business deal. Or times when that particular idea of yours backfired and led to a loss. Times you encountered writer's block, times when you spent weeks writing an article and someone from nowhere plagiarizes it. Times when you got booed off the stage.

You would remember those hard times when your "One Time" happens, that one time that would lead to a chain of reactions. You've heard One Dance, do you know Wizkid has collected a total of 11 international awards since the One Dance collaboration aside from been nominated for the Grammys. *What a One Time.*

*Let ME END WITH THIS.* Keep working hard, keep hustling, keep thinking outside the Box, Keep connecting, keep honing your skill.You could take a break and re-strategise. Davido took a break in 2016 and look, he's got the whole Nigeria vibing since then. Find out your weaknesses, improve on them, create a plan, draft out your ideas, itemize your visions, list out ways to achieve them, get feedback from followers, find out what they want and keep doing the same thing that got you on the road!
